Military service in the Chinese Air Force since 1949; in 1953 he graduated from the school of military pilots in the province Chanchun; in 1965 qualification as pilot; in 1964 brought down the American pilotless reconnaissance aircraft AQM-34; later he was tranferred to the province Guangdong; on 15.03.1971 he was selected as a candidate of an early taikonaut group; this program was stopped on 13.05.1972 due financial problems.
