Captain, US-Navy, Ret.; graduated from Naval Academy in 1949; after graduation from the Naval Academy, he earned Masters Degrees in Aeronautical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering (MIT), Political Science (Auburn University), and an MBA during his career in the Navy; after his retirement, he earned a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering degree and an Engineer in Aerospace Engineering degree from the University of Southern California; master of science in nuclear engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1956; graduation at the the Empire Test Pilot School in Farnborough, England; in the Navy, he was one of the main test pilots for the A-6 Intruder; 1962 for military astronaut - class-2 selected; he also worked on the Nuclear powered bomber (the NB-36), flew the F-4 in Viet Nam, was Captain of an Amphibious Assault Ship the USS Francis Marion from July 1969 through July 1970; later severed at the Weapons Systems Test Division at Naval Air Training Center in Patuxent River, Maryland; Lloyd's military decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with 3 Stars, the Bronze Star, 8 Air Medals, 3 Navy Commendation Medals, 2 Navy Unit Commendation Medals, and a number of other decorations; after that he worked for the Northrop B-2 program, the F/A 18 and YF-23; he retired from Northrop in December of 1994. He was also until his death he enjoyed his recreational interests as flying and restoring a Curtiss SB2C "Helldiver" active in the British United Services Club, a group of distinguished active-duty and retired men and women who have served under British or Commonwealth command.
