In 1980, he began studying atomic physics and
within three years won first prize in the physics category of a national
scholastic contest, capturing first prize again the following year. In 1984,
started studies in astrophysics, graduating first in his high school class of
1986. In 1991, designed and developed the first hybrid, multi-building, fiber
optic, mainframe-to-client-server banking architecture in Latin America. The
following year, he designed and built Ecuador's first TCP/IP client server
network. Graduated with an Master of Science in systems engineering in 1994
from the Universidad Catolica Santiago de Guayaquil, with emphasis in
Cybernetics where he was the director of the campus' computer lab until 1995,
the same year he married. Also in 1995, began research in cybernetics and
Astrobiology and designed Latin America's first internet-to-fax and
internet-to-beeper interfaces. The next year, he designed and developed
Ecuador's first internet commerce platform. In 1999 and 2003 respectively,
designed and developed Ecuador's first and second generation "intelligent
houses." Also in 2003, was Ecuador's first to reach 65 mph on a wind-only
powered terrestrial vehicle and the country's first to reach 1/4 the speed of
sound in a terrestrial vehicle. Completed the TERC astrobiology teaching
certification course in 2004, which was also the year in which he secured a
suborbital spaceflight with Space Adventures, Ltd., the first trip of its kind
for an Ecuadorian citizen and he's expected to become the first Civilian
Astronaut of Latin America then. In 2006 started Advanced Sub Orbital training
in the GCTC (Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre) in Russia.
In 2006 he
starts Project ESAA, which is officially recognized by the Ecuadorian Air Force
(FAE) General Command in 2007 as the first astronautics initiative in the
history of the country and him as the first ecuadorian astronaut candidate.
On June 8, 2007 he graduates
ASA/T degree (Advanced Suborbital Astronaut Trained)
after completing the
ASA/T training on GCTC Moscow, during the training he
imposes a record of 8,6G for Ecuadorian air history while training on the
MiG-29UB and MiG 31E in Nizhny Novgorod air base, to date, and accordingly to
FAE records, he is the ecuadorian that has flown higher (21 kms altitud on MiG
31E), faster (2.6 Mach on MiG 31E) and sustained the most G force during the
longest period (8.6G during 16 seconds).
